51. Gorguts - Colored Sands Technical Death Metal August 30 http://open.spotify.com/album/0MbEcbEOCXgCSoJELQO5NS And here we have it: an album which pretty much encompasses everything I desire in my heavy music. Technical riffs from the depths of madness tear you apart, and deathly screams win your heart over whilst fucking your face, resulting in a journey across the midpoint of beautiful meets brutal (brutalful?). It is: explosive production, directed right at your gut; dirty fingers banging on the surprise rape button; technique so calculated that it couldn’t be anything but dangerous; final proof that pain can be artistic. It will never do what you expect it to, instead punishing you without laughing, refusing to let up, creeping into your brain and wearing your nerves down until you are forced to submit. Yes, it’s intense, but the right kind of intense. The kind of intense which slides into mellow territory if it wants to, but hardly ever wants to. The type of intense which doesn't necessarily aim to be the heaviest “sound” you’ve ever heard, just the heaviest “beating”. And when the long songs don’t even feel that long, you know this is the product of creative genius, and all of this made me realise. Realise what? Realise everything.
