I Will Be Your Friend

The Freewheelin’ Troubadour

When times get hard, and you feel like, you need a hand to lend,
come to me and spill your thoughts; I will be your friend.

When you feel down, and times are tough, your ship is sinking, and the water's rough,
don't shed a tear about that stuff, my sail is yours, my friend.

When the sky is fallin' all around, the sun, it resides on the ground,
an' hummingbirds don't hum no sound, I'll sing for you, my friend.

For if you sit with me I'll tell you stories of my pain,
All that you'll learn from years of tears, and all the strength you'll gain.

Although its hard to live through hurt, in a life that you despise,
You can join me sitting in my tree, and like the old owl, become wise.

This life is hard, sometimes you'll cry, howl at the moon and curse the sky,
but never should you wish to die, hold your head up high, my friend.

Should you sit there smoking dreams away, discardin' tomorrow, an' despisin' today,
come find me, I'll show you the way, I'll be your guide, my friend.

Depression seems to drag you down, your smile before, now seems to frown,
upon your head, I'll place a crown, my king, my queen, my friend.

When summer turns and leaves do fall, and your garden's the place that holds them all,
I'll get my guitar when I hear you call, and play for you, again.

Take time to size up where you're at, and where you wanna be,
It's inevitable at times that you'll feel low, but remember you've got me.

If you want to be left alone, that's fine, just be positive while you are,
And know that if you need a friend, my love is not that far.
